How to say Hello in Austrian German?

Austrian German is a dialect variation of the regular "High" German. You can say hello in many different ways.

"Servus" A popular greeting in Austria. Nice and simple.

"Grias di" or "Grüss dich" Both mean the same thing, "I greet you".  Every region and valley has a different way to use this greeting and it may sound not the same.

"Heil" A greeting like any other, Heil is most commonly used in the West of Austria. A hand gesture to say hello is normal and has nothing to do with the Nazi past. This greeting originated in the Roman empire.

"Grüß Gott" also spelled "Grüss Gott" A formal polite greeting.

"Hallo" If all fails, a hallo is always acceptable.
