Tips
Here are some more hotel details to look out for besides the obvious points of interest when choosing a thermal bath facility, such as pool water types, sauna, and aesthetic theme.
Our thermal bath etiquette for Europe and sauna dos and don'ts for German countries will answer all your other relevant queries.

Direct Connection to the Public Spa
Check if the hotel is directly connected to the public thermal bath area. Is it just accessible from outside, or is it connected via a tunnel or bridge system?
A hotel that is connected to the public spa via a heated tunnel or bridge is your best option, as you walk with your bathing robes from your room to the thermal hot springs.
Day Tickets Included
Every good thermal spa retreat room should come with the day ticket to the thermal baths and sauna area included.

Extra Facilities and Spaces
Most facilities provide you with access to the common public thermal bath and sauna village area, but only exclusive thermal spas additionally offer dedicated luxurious hotel guest only spa areas.
These can be themed and can offer special treatments worth checking out.
A few thermal bath complexes may have a program where room guests get to have the whole facility to themselves before the official opening hours.
Likewise, ask the hotel reception for access to exclusive hotel-customer-only spaces and quiet rooms in the core thermal complex.

Room Amenities
Before you book your room, verify if ½ or ¾ board is provided. ½ board contains breakfast and dinner, and ¾ is the same thing but includes an additional noon and/or afternoon snack.
Some resorts let you choose where you want to enjoy your breakfast, either at the wellness hotel (you have to come dressed) or at the public thermal bath facility (you can come in a bathrobe).

Arrival and Departure Day
Ask the hotel reception if you can check in earlier or if you can plan your arrival earlier to make the most of your day ticket to the hot springs.
Every so often, the hotel will be able to issue you a day ticket in the morning hours right away so that you can go soak in the pool while your room is getting ready.
Some hotel facilities also offer special last spa day tickets on your departure day, where you can pay a few euros per person to prolong your retreat after check out.

Cancelations
Make sure to book with travel insurance for your stay, just in case you can't make it.
Because if you cancel last minute, your insurance will take care of the 90% that you are otherwise bound to lose.
