Romantic small towns in Europe offer a dreamlike escape, where cobblestone streets, candlelit cafés, and breathtaking views create moments that feel timeless.
In these enchanting settings, love feels effortless, as if the world slows down just for two.

We traveled across several countries and reveal here our current favorite 14 romantic small towns in 2025.
Save them for later because a few are entirely unique discoveries.
Varenna, Italy

Varenna will steal your heart the moment you set foot in this romantic lakeside town.
Located in Northern Italy, and one of the most idyllic Lake Como towns, Varenna is the place to be with your better half if you are looking for true Italian romance.
In fact, Varenna is a venue where lucky couples get married! Your better half will be absolutely captivated by the romantic villas, manicured Italian gardens, and incomparable views that the small, vibrant lake town has to offer.
Grindelwald, Switzerland

Green pastures and wooden chalets dot the landscape of this mountain resort in the Swiss Alps. If your heart beats for the mountains, don't skip this Swiss getaway.
Grindelwald is known for its winter and summer tourism, and it's also the starting point to the Jungfraujoch, Switzerland's highest railway station, which gets you within minutes to revel in spectacular 360° glacier views.
Plan a day trip to the nearby Lauterbrunnen valley and surprise your significant other with a truly unforgettable trip!
Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany

Rothenburg is that picture-perfect place that you imagined from the Grimm Brothers tales. This medieval walled settlement captured our hearts!
The town is located along the Romantic road (I didn't make it up).
Hire a rental in Frankfurt and discover some other fascinating romantic towns, such as Würzburg and Dinkelbühel, along the Romantic Road for a memorable journey that you both will cherish forever.
Brașov, Romania

Brașov is a popular ski resort in the Carpathian Mountains. We found this town to be super laid-back and a joy to be in.
The beautiful town is eye candy, and several unique boutiques invite visitors on a shopping trip. We loved the food, the people, and the relatively inexpensive prices of Brașov.
Some of Romania's top castles are located a day trip away from Brașov, including the world-famed Bran castle and the enchanting Peleș castle.
Lofoten, Norway

The incomparable Norwegian atmosphere makes Lofoten a little heaven away from the world.
Spent quality time with your partner in one of the red cabins by the sea, plan a picnic with a view, or marvel together at the glowing northern lights.
If nature is what brought you together, venture to the pristine Nordic Lofoten coastline for an adventure à deux.
Hautvillers, France

Hautvillers is a small village at the core of the Champagne region. However, its pristine streets and picturesque vineyard views are not the sole reason why you should visit.
Dom Pérignon, a 17th-century monk, invented the sparkling wine, and the village is since known as the birthplace of French Champagne.
Today, the village is a hub for Champagne lovers, and we found the atmosphere particularly charming. If you are in Paris, join a guided Champagne tasting tour to the Moet Chandon Veuve Clicquot wine cellars.
Český Krumlov, Czechia

Perched above the Vltava River sits one of the most enchanting towns in Europe, Český Krumlov.
We stumbled upon this town in Czechia accidentally, and we were swept away the moment we stepped foot on the cobbled streets.
Walk the narrow streets at night and be dazzled by the reflecting lights on the river. Head into a tavern and immerse yourself in the comforting local food culture. The ambiance will invite you to visit during fall or winter.
Colmar, France

Colmar is a place where we always come back because it ticks all the boxes for a romantic getaway.
Half-timbered colorful historical houses, canals, and a bounty of flowers await you in Colmar. Besides, this fairy-tale French town is located near a few other idyllic villages.
Head to Riquewihr, the walled town; to Hunawihr the village amidst the vineyards, to Eguisheim, the village built in a circle or to Ribeauvillé, the town beneath an age-old castle ruin.
Limone Sul Garda, Italy

Limone Sul Garda is the pristine town of lemons on Lake Garda. Perched along rocks, it offers stunning views and a fantastic choice of dreamy lakeside hotels.
Walk hand in hand along the serene lakeside promenade or take a private boat ride to soak in the warm rays of a cliché Italian sunset together.
The town of Lemons will help you take a true break from the world so that you can focus on your relationship. We truly felt this way during our time in Limone sul Garda and I can't recommend this destination enough.
Hallstatt, Austria

Known as one of the most beautiful villages in the world, Hallstatt is that place where you will want to take your sweetheart if it has been on your bucket list.
Have your breakfast with the lake view, Austrian delicate pastries, and a Vienna Mélange Café. Crystal clear waters and a crisp climate add to the romantic, picture-perfect ambiance.
Then decide if you'd like a romantic boat ride or rather a top-of-the-world mountain view for a rewarding kiss, including affection.
Maribor, Slovenia

Maribor is an understated town in northeastern Slovenia. Surrounded by vineyards, it has an ancient wine tradition.
You can find the oldest, over 450-year-old, Guinness World Record-certified grapevine in the world in Maribor. But that's not why I recommend heading to Maribor with your beloved.
Peace and rural charm seekers will adore the landscape and the charming towns of Slovenia. Maribor itself is a stellar destination, and so is its university gardens, but also the nearby ancient Roman town of Ptuj.
Füssen, Germany

You have probably heard of the famed fairy tale castle, Neuschwanstein. Well, it sits at a forest border, next to a town known as Füssen.
Picture yourself with your partner on a horse carriage ride up the hill to the legendary castle. At the top, capture a memorable, frame-worthy picture with your beloved.
Visit the equally charming town of Füssen and the Neuschwanstein castle in winter for the most thrilling experience.
Sterzing (Vipiteno), Italy

Sterzing, also named Vipiteno, is a town that isn't that well known — yet.
Located in Italy close to the Austrian border, it has been a little secret among wellness vacationers. Here you will find a good selection of 4 and 5 star adult-only establishments.
The highlight of the small mountain town is the pastel-colored buildings along the center road, leading to the medieval clock tower.
You will adore this town if you are looking for a quiet nook in the Alps to nurture your love.
Sibiu, Romania

At the core of the Transylvania soul lies the historical town of Sibiu.
Winding cobbled streets lead to the enchanting old town surrounded by colorful traditional buildings. Step on the “bridge of lies,” where young lovers swear eternal love.
Plan a picnic at the open air Astra complex in the Dumbrava Sibiului National Park and immerse yourself in the timeless Romanian past.
Sibiu is all yours if you love history or fantasy MMORPG games! Btw, it's one of the prettiest Medieval towns in Transylvania.
