October is an ideal time to visit some of Europe's most captivating cities, where the changing of the season brings autumnal temperatures and vibrant fall splendor.
From centuries-old streets to lively seasonal festivities, these five cities offer unforgettable moments for a fun October excursion.

Munich
Munich has to be at the top of the list because the Bavarian capital in Germany is known as the center of all Oktoberfest celebrations.
The Oktoberfest celebrations start at the end of September and go on until October.

Beer is, of course, at the center of the festivities, but our biggest draw was the ambiance, the rides, and the overall fun ambiance.
Make your way to Munich in October if this is something you would like to experience, but it's not the only reason why Munich has to be at the top.
The old town, the city parks, and relaxed neighborhoods will invite you on a stroll when the foliage starts to change its colors and the sunlight adds a special golden glow to the city's vibe.

Look up all the wonderful things that you can do in Munich, including museum trips and popular sights.
Consider adding a day trip or two to see some of the most stunning places in Germany.
The Berchtesgaden national park with the Königssee lake and the Eagle's Nest are our top picks, but if you are anyway in Munich, you will also want to see the all-famous Neuschwanstein castle.

Amsterdam
We were visiting my uncle when, on a whim, we decided to drive from Switzerland to Amsterdam in October. The Dutch capital is truly worth a visit also in autumn!
While we consider Amsterdam to be a spring destination, I'm going to tell you to do the opposite and to visit in October instead (and we visited in spring and fall).

Amsterdam is chill in October, and the dark gray with red and blue vibes fits the October theme.
The quantity of tourists is bearable, and the air is crisp and fresh, with the foliage reflecting beautifully in the still canal waters.
You will have more chances to visit all the prime sights and museums, such as the Anne Frank house because most people visit in spring.

Besides, tulip flower bulbs are purchased and planted in fall so that they grow out of the snow in spring. You can confidently head to the historic Amsterdam flower market in October to pick various tulip flower bulbs.
Amsterdam is also one of the few cities in mainland Europe where Halloween is celebrated.
Dutch techno is at home in Amsterdam, and if you combine the two, you will experience the finest parties in a city that is practically made for spooky vibes. Amsterdam is also super safe!
Tip: The city can be pricey, and therefore I recommend you compare the cost of visiting Amsterdam.

Milan
I have heard many friends and family members say that Milan was underwhelming.
Yet, I still believe this northern Italian city is worth a visit, especially yin October.

You see, Milan is the city of aesthetics and fashion and October is most certainly one of the most handsome months in the year with vibrant foliage complimenting the vibe of the Milanese capital.
We loved strolling the picturesque castle gardens while eating roasted chestnuts, and the golden evening sun made the cathedral of Milan appear enchanted.
The temperatures are not that chilly, which is a huge plus point!
You are in good hands in Milan if you are a food gourmand. Seasonal fair and specialties top every other capital in terms of gastronomic delights, and October is after all the harvest month.

Centrally located in the Lombardy region, you should plan a couple of day trips from Milan.
Make your way to the serene lake como towns for villas set at Italy's most luxurious lake panorama.
I also wholeheartedly recommend a visit to the heritage-rich town of Bergamo, which is known for its old world charm.

Vienna
Austria's capital was once known as the pearl of Europe, and this image has been further polished over the last decades.
The imperial splendor shines through the architecture, telling the tale of the city, evoking the Belle Époque period eloquently.

Known as a green city with no shortage of brightly colored shrubs and trees, you will find yourself getting drawn into Vienna with every step.
And October is just the right season for all that and more.
Picture yourself walking the royal gardens of Schönbrunn or the Belvedere. Then taking a traditional “Fiaker” horse carriage right across the old town.

A stop to try the world-famous Sachertorte cake with a true Viennese coffee should be on your agenda as well.
Vienna does not lack museum offerings. Some of the most prestigious art museums are found in Vienna, including the Art History Museum, the Albertina, and the Gustav Klimt's Secession.

Budapest
Budapest is one of my favorite cities, and that's for a good reason!
The Hungarian capital consists of two parts: the Buda castle area on the western bank of the Danube River and the Pest city quarters on the eastern side of the Danube River.
A day is by far not enough to experience Budapest, especially if you intend to visit the city in October.

Budapest is super busy in the summer months and so incredibly hot, a visit in October is more than suitable for that reason alone.
Visit the castle top, the fisherman's bastion, the parliament building, the Jewish synagogues, the market hall, and the scenic Vajdahunyad Castle without the crowds.

Eat spiced paprika-enriched Hungarian goulash stews as the temperatures drop, and try some pálinka, a transparent, high-percentage distilled liquor, to get, literally speaking, into the local spirit.
Budapest is also known for its thermal spas, and the hot springs are best visited when the daytime temperatures begin to drop in October.
Tip: Look up the latest cost of visiting Budapest.
