The Christmas Markets in Austria are known as some of the most beautiful in the world.
Fortunately, most open their doors before any other Christmas market in Europe, and they are true to their traditional image.

When do Christmas Markets take place in Austria?
Most Christmas markets, in the capital and regional capitals, open their doors by mid-November or during the 3rd week in November.
This is earlier than any other destination in Europe. For example, to compare, most Christmas markets in Germany start out at the end of November, and only a handful get going during the 3rd week of November.

The list starts with the most popular Christmas markets at the top, with the most stunning Vienna markets leading the way.
Capitals typically have more than just one Christmas market. Note that villages tend to host a Christmas market on the weekends only.
Keep in mind that Krampus celebrations with parades are held at the Christmas markets around the 5th and 6th of December in all villages, towns, and cities across Austria.
