Europe is full of picture-perfect places, but some stand out as the most loved by couples for wedding photos.

From elegant city squares to castle courtyards and quiet alpine villages these locations continue to show up in wedding albums for good reason.
Prague, Czechia

Prague offers a specific aura and flow that is difficult to recreate anywhere else in Europe. A dark gothic mood would be your choice if you aim for more dramatic wedding photography.
Popular photography shooting venues are located in freely accessible spots across Prague.

This includes the Prague Castle and the area behind the castle, including the Strahov Monastery and the Petrin Tower gardens. The Malá Strana quarters are below the castle along the shores of the Vitava river and the iconic Charles bridge.
Just try to time the photograph session during the earlier morning hours, because that's when you get the place to yourself and you'll be completely undisturbed.
Varenna, Italy

Varenna belongs in the category of the most romantic small towns in Europe. Located on Lake Como in northern Italy, it offers everything you could hope for for your perfect wedding snaps.

In fact, couples love to get wed in this exclusive setting. Elegant rows of houses, stunning lush gardens and villas, and a lake view to strive for.
Varenna doesn't disappoint if you want to add an Italian touch to your wedding photo.
Sibiu, Romania

Sibiu is definitely an outlier because Transylvania, Romania, is still an up-and-coming tourist destination.
In fact, this country has so many charming towns that, technically, Sibiu isn't the only amazing wedding photo town in Transylvania.

Yet, Sibiu must be a primary wedding photo spot because within 2 days we came across 5 wedding photo sessions and active weddings.
Quaint little alleys, two large squares, cobbled streets… It's truly a uniquely beautiful place in Europe.
The local legend of the Bridge of Lies in Sibiu fuels these trending bridal shoots.
Vatican

We were surprised to see that several people arranged wedding photo shoots at the Vatican. Ironically, we saw four shoots on Easter Monday, the day the pope passed away in 2025.

Some bridal photo sessions are more elaborate than others. Popular places include the columns around the St. Peter's Square and the busy lanes next to the Vatican border.
We are not sure if these shoots require permission of some sort? I'd check this before planning anything!
Paris, France

The most classic place where wedding memories are captured is still Paris, in France.
Paris is a great option if you are aiming for a classic French background vibe and portraits that reflect the mood.

Here are some of the most charming neighborhoods and places to add to your list:
- Montmartre: Small, cute houses and alleys offer a bohemian Parisian artist vibe.
- Trocadero Square: For the one and only Eiffel tower shoot.
- The Parisian gardens: Especially relevant if you are in Paris in spring. The Luxembourg Garden with the palace is a top choice for that.
- A boat trip on the Seine: A creative photographer can take your photos to the next level if you book a trip on a boat during the twilight evening hours, when the Eiffel Tower starts to sparkle.
- Versailles Palace: The Sun King's lavish palace and garden estate just outside Paris.
Salzburg, Austria

Salzburg is the sparkling center of baroque Austria, and this will be your destination of choice for scenic marriage portraits.
The city is compact but has some hill top views, adding a nuance of photo background options.

Head to the old town cathedral square and Getreidegasse street to take a historical architectural picture set.
Climb up the steps to the Kapuziner monastery. Here you'll find a small garden area with a straight view to the Salzach River with scenic houses and a castle hill view.
Manicured gardens including the Mirabell Gardens or the gardens of the Hellbrunn Palace, add a romantic touch to your storybook wedding keepsakes.
Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland

Lauterbrunnen is mostly known for its fairytale valley and mountain views. The town inspired the creation of Rivendell in the Lord of the Rings.
A waterfall high above the cliffs of the idyllic village makes this the most stunning photography location for newlyweds.

Picture grass-green valleys, dramatic cliffside views, and scenic snow-capped mountaintops. Take the cable car or mountain train up to the villages of Mürren or Wengen to preserve your extended wedding memories.
Riquewihr, France

The village of Riquewihr in Alsace, France, has been dubbed the Beauty and the Beast's Disney town because of its half-timbered, colorful houses and cobbled streets.
And ironically, we came across a few brides and grooms that used the lovely background for their happily-ever-after portraits.

Riquewihr is a walled hamlet, and therefore it isn't that large. It's one of the most popular towns near Colmar and subsequently you'll encounter large tourist groups.
I recommend planning a wedding photoshoot in the off-season and not in the peak season to make the most of your photoshoot.
Tuscany, Italy

Tuscany and its rolling hills is high up there on every Italy aficionado's to-do bucket list. The natural landscapes are unparalleled in Italy, and these quaint little ancient towns will steal your heart.

In terms of wedding photography, you have a large canvas to work with. Every little corner can be turned into a memorable, love-filled frame.
Especially small towns such as Pitigliano, Montemerano, Sorano and Sovana are just a stone's throw from each other, and they make absolutely stunning wedding photo backdrops.
